Cherokee court reporters jailed for scheming on transcript overcharges

An article posted Jan. 27 by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that three former Cherokee County court reporters who pleaded guilty to racketeering were sentenced to jail for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars by overbilling for their transcribing services. According to the article, investigators said that since at least 2006, the three court reporters had expanded the spacing in official court transcripts to increase the number of pages transcribed and also billed for pages that did not exist.
