The Aug. 25 Battle Creek (Mich.) Enquirer profiled NCRA’s immediate past president, Tami Smith Keenan, a court reporter working in the Calhoun County Circuit Court. Kennan, who has worked as a court reporter for nearly 30 years, told the paper that reporters follow the motto, “Have machine, will travel.” She said that although some reporters in the courthouse have been replaced by digital recording equipment, stenographic reporters still have many options, such as legal depositions and other proceedings, conferences and even interviews, as well as captioning for television.
