FBI assessing whether PACER outage a technical problem or cyberattack

Following a four-hour outage of the U.S. Courts’ PACER website, a searchable database that lawyers and journalists can use to download court records, the FBI is reassessing whether it was a technical problem or a cyberattack on the system. According to articles on Politico.com and the ABA  Journal, the Administrative Office of the Courts issued a statement Friday characterizing the shutdown as a denial-of-service attack.  Later that day, the FBI told reporters that the shutdown was due to technical problems in the court computer systems; however, on Monday, the FBI decided to reconsider its position.
