A recent editorial in the Charlotte Observer by Martin Brinkley of Raleigh, N.C., and John Wester of Charlotte, N.C., both past presidents of the North Carolina Bar Association, argues that continuing to provide adequate judicial funding is straining the courts and fraying the state’s justice system. The editorial was in response to an article in the Observer about proposals by state lawmakers to cut the judicial budget including replacing live court reporters with electronic recording. A letter to the editor (fourth letter down) written by NCRA President Nancy Varallo, RDR, CRR, that addressed the issue of replacing live court reporters with electronic recording was also published by the paper.
