An interactive exercise at the Friday afternoon session “International Depositions 101” gave participants an opportunity to learn firsthand some of the special considerations necessary for international work. Ian Hardy, from Optima Juris, provided four potential scenarios:
- A client requests you for a deposition in Australia at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
- A client requests you for a deposition in Paris in two weeks.
- A client requests you for a deposition in Mumbai in five days.
- A client requests you for a deposition in Beijing in one month.
Through the scenarios, participants discussed issues like time changes, visas and passports, shots and medications, bureaucracy, accents, and electricity outlets and reliability. The final scenario was a trick question: Depositions are not allowed in mainland China.
