Attendees continued to pass through the registration booth today as the 2015 NCRA Convention & Expo opened in New York City. The meeting is taking place at the Hilton New York Midtown hotel from July 30 – Aug. 2 and is expected to draw close to 1,200 attendees. Walk-in registration is still available.
Highlights from Thursday at the event included the Annual Business Meeting where 2014-2015 President Sarah E. Nageotte, RDR, CRR, CBC, passed the gavel to Steve Zinone, RPR, Pittsford, N.Y, who will officially be sworn in as 2015-20156 President during the Premier Session scheduled for Fri., July 31.
During the Annual Business Meeting, members also approved an increase in membership dues, which is expected to generate an additional $220,000 in revenue for the Association.
President Zinone also said that a task force would be created to review the current process that the Nominating Committee follows to choose candidates for the Board of Directors. The announcement was based on suggestions shared by the current committee’s Chair Nancy Varallo, RDR, CRR, a firm owner from Worcester, Mass.
During the afternoon, NCRA members vying for the champion title at the annual National Realtime Competition. Winners of that and the National Speed Competition, held on Wednesday, July 29, will be announced at the Awards Luncheon on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The Expo also officially opened with more than two dozen vendors showcasing new products and services that support the court reporting and captioning professions.
