The 2021 NCRA Conference & Expo, happening July 29-Aug. 1, is nearly here and if you are still not sure about attending, now is the time to just do it – register now!
Don’t miss being a part of the first NCRA live and in-person event in more than a year, or being part of so much more. Here’s just some of the fun attendees can experience during the event at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino:
- Keynote speaker Debbie Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies
- The 2021 Guinness Challenge – is this the year the record will be broken?
- The National Speed and Realtime Contests – see who gets the bragging rights for 2021
- Networking opportunities such as receptions, luncheons, and more
- And a schedule of educational sessions that are guaranteed to help inspire you, enlighten you, and rejuvenate you in this era of a new normal
An appreciation of the far-reaching possibilities for the wonderful things you can do as a court reporter/captioner, and the real fun you can have doing this job, is what presenter Cecilee Wilson, RDR, CRR, CRC, a captioner from Kaysville, Utah, said attendees can expect from her session Lights, Camera, Action = Sizzle!
“This session will cover theater captioning, but that’s just the beginning of the fun you can have in a captioning career! You will learn the technical aspects of making your captions available to audience members, as well as the many things you can do in the field that make your job sizzle,” said Wilson, who is just one of many of the seasoned professionals who will be presenting.
“The emphasis will be theatre and performances but will include many of the fun things you can do that give being a professional in this field pizzaz,” added Wilson, who has presented at several NCRA Conferences on realtime hookups and captioning and has served on a number of COPE panels.
Wilson said that what motivates her to share her knowledge with others is her love for the profession and the good those in this field can do in all aspects of it. “We have good people doing good things to benefit society, so anything I can do to help them along, I’m going for it,” she added.
And don’t forget, while you are registering for the NCRA Conference & Expo, be sure to book your room stay at the host hotel. Vegas is a hot post-pandemic destination right now, and the city is fully open for business. Due to the popular demand of the Conference, the NCRA room block at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, the host hotel, is filling up quickly, and you do not want to be left without a room at our steeply discounted rate! The NCRA block is already sold out for Saturday night, but rooms are still available at the resort (at a slightly higher rate) for Saturday and the special rate is still available for the rest of the week from Wednesday through Monday. You will still save money by staying inside the block because of the lower rates, but also, NCRA has negotiated a lower resort fee for members. But hurry! This rate expires July 2 or until the NCRA room block is sold out, whichever comes first.
Support the profession, support the future
Now is the perfect time to invest in the future of the court reporting and captioning professions by donating to help an NCRA student member attend the 2021 NCRA Conference & Expo. This year, more than 100 students have already registered to attend. Donations can range from $25, $50, $100, or $150 to the entire student registration of $175. Donations are combined to offset the Conference costs, which allows students to pay the reduced fee.
Attendees at the Conference can take a chance – or many chances – at winning a new Luminex II writer, valued at more than $5,000 and donated by Stenograph, in a raffle sponsored by the National Court Reporters Foundation. Raffle tickets may be purchased prior to attending the Conference as the winner does not need to be present to win. The drawing will happen Saturday, July 31, at the Member Recognition Gala.
NCRF is also raffling off a high-end Gucci wallet in a Clutch for a Cause fundraiser to help support its programs. The wallet was donated by NCRF Chair Early Langley, RMR, a court reporter in Danville, Calif. Raffle tickets are $25 each or three for $50 and can be purchased at the NCRF booth on the Expo floor. Members can also purchase tickets here or by texting the keyword clutch (lowercase) to 41444. The drawing will happen Saturday, July 31, at the Member Recognition Gala. The winner need not be present to win.
While visiting the NCRF booth, Conference attendees can also learn how they can help the Association’s philanthropic arm do more through the many programs, scholarships, and grants it offers. 2021 commemorative Conference pins will be available for purchase for $10 at the NCRF booth.
Visit the 2021 NCRA Conference & Expo web page for more information about registration, the venue, session highlights, and more. You can also learn more about the hotel’s health and safety protocols here.
As always, NCRA places the safety and health of its guests, presenters, and staff as its top priority and remains committed to its 2021 NCRA Conference & Expo.
