On Monday, Nov. 15, NCRA President Debbie Dibble, RDR, CRR, CRC, in collaboration with the NCRA Board of Directors, sent a letter to bar associations across the country. The intent of the letter was to inform bar associations and their attorney members that the now frequent use of web platforms to conduct remote depositions, hearings, and additional legal proceedings has fostered a grave concern where digital recorders, in lieu of certified stenographic court reporters, are being designated to keep the record and are asking for a stipulation that the record can be used “as if taken by stenographic means.” In many jurisdictions, this practice is in violation of state evidentiary and procedural rules. We strongly encourage that you read President Dibble’s letter and share this information with your state associations, your attorney and judicial colleagues, and any other professional colleagues in the legal field who may benefit from this knowledge. Thank you for your support and attention to this matter.
