NYSCRA gears up to ‘Spread the love’ with everyone

The New York State Court Reporters Association (NYSCRA) is hosting a number of events that will be open to court reporters, captioners, and students around the country to celebrate NCRA’s 2022 Court Reporting & Captioning Week happening Feb. 5-12. This year’s event carries the theme: “Spread love and steno everywhere you go.”

According to NYSCRA Immediate Past President Joshua Edwards, RDR, CRR, CRC, a court reporter and captioner from New York City, most of the activities being held will be eligible for continuing education units (CEUs) for court reporters who hold national certifications with the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA). Registration is now open and more information about cost and CEUs can be found at nycra.org.

The activities kick off Sun., Feb. 6, with the Fourth Annual Student Forum that will include featured speaker NCRA President Debbie Dibble, RDR, CRR, CRC, a freelance court reporter and captioner from Salt Lake City, Utah, who will be joined by several other working professionals. The session will cover such topics as motivation, time management, and more.

On Mon., Feb. 7, Erika Jacobi, Ph.D., founder of LC GLOBAL®, an international consulting firm, will address “How to Stay Relevant in an Industry at the Risk of Disruption,” which will offer guidance and hands-on tools to maneuver these times of uncertainty by probing into ways of reinventing and repositioning the live stenographic captioning and reporting services to succeed despite increasing adversity.

Other events throughout the week include a session on speech perception, a panel discussion on associations and advocacy, a freelance agency owners forum, and more. To see the entire list of sessions and speakers, learn more about the CEUs being offered and session fees, or to register, visit nycra.org.

The 2022 NYSCRA celebration marks the 10th year the week-long event has been held. State associations, individual members, schools, students, vendors, and anyone else who may be affiliated with the legal world are encouraged to participate.

To help mark the week, NCRA’s 2022 Court Reporting & Captioning resources page is available and offers a large selection of materials for court reporters, captioners, and others to use during the week, including customizable press release templates, media advisories, social media tips and messages, information about proclamations, and more. These latest resources reflect this year’s theme of ‘Spread love and steno everywhere you go’ and are available at NCRA.org/Awareness.

Many of the resources can also be adapted and used year-round to help promote the profession. Be sure to check back to the page frequently as new resources are continually being added.

Secure an official proclamation and be entered into a drawing to win one free registration to NCRA’s 2022 Conference & Expo being held July 21-24 in Orlando, Fla. This marks the fourth year NCRA has issued a challenge to members and states to secure official proclamations from governors and state legislators recognizing the week. States must submit a copy of their official state proclamation recognizing the week to pr@ncra.org to be entered into the drawing. Information about how to secure an official proclamation and a downloadable sample proclamation is available at NCRA.org/Awareness.

No matter how you celebrate 2022 Court Reporting & Captioning Week, be sure to share your stories and photos with NCRA’s Communications Team at pr@ncra.org. Also, remember to use the hashtag #CRCW2022 when you post on social media.
