Calling all state leaders and aspiring state leaders: Boot Camp is back! After a three-year hiatus, NCRA is once again excited to host leaders from the various affiliated court reporting organizations at the 2023 Leadership & Legislative Boot Camp on Feb. 26-28, 2023, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Alexandria Old Town, Va. This is a chance for members to learn techniques to advocate for the court reporting, captioning, legal videography, scopist, and associated legal professions and includes the opportunity to use those newly gained skills on Capitol Hill with the attendees’ state representatives.
Dave Wenhold, CAE, PLC, NCRA Executive Director, and Jocelynn Moore, J.D., NCRA Director of Government Relations, will lead the three-day event.
“This year, our professions will be encountering several legislative battles, both in the states and in Congress,” says Moore. “I encourage all state leaders to attend NCRA’s 2023 Leadership & Legislative Boot Camp because we will teach you how to lobby on a grassroots level and will prepare you to effectively advocate before legislators so that you will be ready for any legislative fight that your state association may come across. Furthermore, the best way you can advocate for your profession is by becoming an advocate for yourself. We will provide you with all of the tools and training to become your own advocate and will help you develop the same skillset as D.C. lobbyists,” she added.
Special guest speaker Jeremy Villanueva, Associate Director of Government Affairs with the Wounded Warrior Project, will present his session, Advocacy & Congressional Interactions Post-COVID and Moving Forward. “I am extremely excited to speak with the advocates coming into Washington, D.C., to lobby on behalf of the Association,” Villanueva says. “Sharing advice on how to effectively advocate, both at home and in Washington, is something I take very seriously. This country needs more people who are passionate about issues that affect their occupation and their communities. Instilling in them the passion and the know-how to become better advocates is an exciting challenge for me, and I look forward to meeting everyone in February.”
Attendees will:
- Participate in intensive sessions and training that will teach them the skills and strategies necessary to effectively advocate for their profession in state legislatures and in Congress;
- Engage in real-life scenarios where they can put their newly learned advocacy skills into practice and network with other NCRA members who are passionate about their profession; and
- Have the chance to visit Capitol Hill where they will put their grassroots advocacy training to the test and advocate before their elected representatives and staff in Congress.
Registration rates are $275 for members, $225 for a second member from the same state, and $375 for nonmembers.
