Make plans now to share why “steno is always in your heart” this 2023 Court Reporting & Captioning Week taking place Feb. 4-11. The 2023 celebration marks the 11th year the week-long event has been sponsored by NCRA to encourage all state associations, individual members, schools, students, vendors, and anyone else who may be affiliated with the legal world to promote the professions and showcase why stenographic court reporting and captioning is the gold standard for making the most accurate record.
To help mark the week, NCRA’s 2023 Court Reporting & Captioning resources page is available with a number of updated items for court reporters, captioners, and others to use during the week. This year’s catalog of resources includes customizable press release templates, media advisories, social media messages, information about proclamations, videos, and more. These latest resources reflect this year’s theme of “STENO always in my heart” and are available at NCRA.org/Awareness. Many of the resources can also be adapted and used year-round to help promote the profession. Be sure to check back to the page frequently as new resources are continually being added.
“Court reporting has sent me coast to coast and literally around the world. I have sat next to the most deprived to the most entitled, from desperate surroundings to palatial environs. I have heard the depths of injustice and heartlessness as well as the triumphs and joys of discovery and invention. It has been a remarkable career, eminently fulfilling, and I have never regretted for one moment my decision to be a stenographic court reporter,” said NCRA President Jason T. Meadors, FAPR, RPR, CRR, CRC, a freelance court reporter and agency owner from Fort Collins, Colo.
“Court Reporting & Captioning Week is an opportunity to celebrate our great profession. I always enjoy visiting Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’ office with our Iowa DMACC (Des Moines Area Community College) students and with the Iowa Court Reporters Association (ICRA) members for the signing of the proclamation recognizing the week,” said NCRA Director Cathy Penniston, RPR, CRI, an instructor and independent broadcast captioner from Waukee, Iowa.
“I look forward to visiting with my representatives at the state capitol that day to ask for their support of current ICRA legislation,” she added.
The 2023 event will also mark the fifth consecutive year NCRA has issued a challenge to members and states to secure official proclamations from governors and state legislators recognizing the week. A copy of all proclamations acknowledging the week that are submitted to pr@ncra.org will be entered into a drawing to win one free 2023 NCRA Conference & Expo registration. A downloadable sample proclamation is available at NCRA.org/Awareness.
