The NCRF promotion for donations to the Carl Sauceda Grant was an enormous success. Launched by NCRF Angel Gatherer and NCRA Board of Directors member Margary Rogers, RPR, CRI, an official reporter from Washington, D.C., in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, the promotion provided a copy of the “I Have a Dream” steno booklet to all grant donors.
The national MLK Day of Service invites Americans to transform the day into one of citizen action and volunteer service. Rogers first produced the steno project booklet in 2022 by collaborating with 28 court reporters who each wrote one paragraph of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech in steno. The booklet provides visual examples of how stenographers write, showing how the same words, phrases, and brief forms can be written differently.
Donations exceeded $1,200, which will help fund the Carl Sauceda Grant. Starting in 2024, two recipients will be awarded grants for their efforts to help spread enthusiasm, camaraderie, and outreach about this profession to others. Applications are open and being accepted through March 29, 2024.
