NCRF announces its second-year winners of the Gina Battaglia Memorial Student Intern Scholarship. These memorial scholarships are intended to provide additional resources for students during their court reporting learning journeys. With prices rising each month, winning a scholarship assists in providing financial relief for students beyond tuition.
These student intern scholarships were created in memory of Gina Battaglia, daughter of NCRA member Stephanie Zeder Battaglia, RMR, CRR. Friends, colleagues, and other NCRA supporters have donated generously to help fund this campaign.
The 2024 winners are Jessica Allen-Koontz of Los Angeles, Calif., and Angie Podge, RSR, of Kansas City, Mo.
Expressing her gratitude to all Foundation donors, Allen-Koontz said: “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to NCRF for awarding me the Gina Battaglia Memorial Student Intern Scholarship. It is a great honor to be one of the two recipients of this scholarship. This scholarship will be a great help as I finish my court reporting journey in school and start my journey as a working court reporter.”
Sharing her enthusiasm toward her learning journey and her appreciation of this award, Podge said: “Thank you, NCRF, for the honor of winning the scholarship. With one leg left to obtain my RPR certification, I will continue fighting to the finish. This award reminds me that the supportive court reporting community is rooting for me to succeed.”
Stephanie Battaglia congratulated the first-ever awardee in 2023 with a poignant statement that applies this year too. “Gina was always the biggest proponent of reaching for the stars. Take this scholarship, use it well, and keep reaching for the sky. When you see a butterfly along the way, take heart knowing my Gina is giving you encouragement like she did to so many around her. The world is yours!”
