Today, the NCRA community was treated to an inspiring presentation by Dan Meers, the man behind the beloved Kansas City Chiefs mascot, KC Wolf. Introduced by NCRA President-Elect Cindy Isaacson, RPR, Meers captivated the audience with his incredible journey and the profound lessons he has learned along the way.
With an impressive 35 seasons as KC Wolf, Meers shared anecdotes from his storied career, including several Super Bowl appearances and his early college days as the University of Missouri’s Truman Tiger mascot. He also recounted his first job as Fredbird for the St. Louis Cardinals. His engaging storytelling brought the audience into his world, revealing both the highs and lows of his life in the mascot suit.
One of the most poignant moments of his speech was his recounting of his life-altering accident on November 23, 2013. Meers detailed the harrowing experience of a bungee jumping stunt gone wrong at Arrowhead Stadium, where he fell 70 feet, breaking seven ribs, collapsing a lung, and suffering a T12 vertebra fracture. Despite the severe injuries, Meers emerged with a renewed perspective on life, emphasizing the importance of living every day with character, purpose, and passion.
Throughout his presentation, Meers’ humor and humility shone through. He spoke fondly of his three children, who once brought him to school for show-and-tell, and his wife of 31 years, whom he affectionately referred to as his “fox.” His stories were not just entertaining, but also deeply motivational, resonating with the core values of the NCRA community.
Meers’ message was clear: Embrace every day with enthusiasm and integrity. His journey from a college mascot to a beloved figure in professional sports, and his recovery from a near-fatal accident, serve as a powerful reminder of resilience and the human spirit’s capacity for growth. The NCRA audience left inspired, carrying with them the lessons Meers so passionately shared: Live every day with character, purpose, and passion.
