NCRA advocates for historic page rate increase in Michigan

NCRA’s Government Relations Department submitted a letter signed by Association President Keith R. Lemons, FAPR, RPR, CRR (Ret.), advocating for the passage of HB 5046, to the Michigan Senate’s Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety Committee. This piece of legislation would enact the first page rate increase since 1986 and is on the Committee’s agenda for its October 30 hearing at 1 p.m. Eastern.

“Since the last increase in compensation in 1986, the roles and responsibilities of court reporters have only expanded and intensified,” Lemons wrote. “Over these decades, these professionals have continued to serve with unwavering dedication, ensuring accurate communication, understanding, and legal fairness for all in our courts. Their work is foundational to the principles of justice, access, and equity that our country — and Michigan — hold dear.”

In addition to President Lemon’s letter to Senator Stephanie Chang, who chairs the committee, NCRA has collaborated with state leaders to roll out a Voter Voice campaign organizing NCRA members in Michigan to contact the committee to advocate for HB 5046’s passage.
