As we approach 2025, the National Court Reporters Association is excited to announce the upcoming NCRA Leadership & Legislative Boot Camp, an event designed to empower state leaders, court reporters, captioners, and legal professionals with the skills necessary for effective advocacy. This year’s Boot Camp is set to occur from Feb. 2-4, 2025, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Alexandria, Va., just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C.
The landscape of the court reporting and captioning professions have seen significant transformations since the last Boot Camp. With the ongoing evolution of technology, changes in legislative environments, and the continuous need to advocate for the community, you should consider attending to take advantage of advocacy training and professional development, countless networking opportunities throughout the three days, and the experience of meeting with your representatives, senators, and their staff in face-to-face meetings arranged by NCRA to advocate for court reporting, professional captioning, and legal videography.
“Being able to advocate for my profession has been an amazing experience. I love what I do, and having people understand and appreciate the value of our work is inspiring,” said Jennifer Vaillancourt, RPR, a freelancer from Winthrop, Mass. “To say I learned something would be an understatement. The experience is invaluable. I will be able to take the skills I learned and apply them to all aspects of my job and life. I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

The NCRA Leadership & Legislative Boot Camp isn’t just about learning; it’s about action. As we’ve seen from past participants, those who attend, not only gain invaluable knowledge but also leave with the confidence to make a real difference in their profession through advocacy.
“Being able to take part in a hands-on opportunity to advocate for this profession was an amazing experience,” said Kristin Kelley, RPR, CRR, an official from Wilmington, Mass. “Putting the grassroots advocacy training to the test before Senator Markey and Congressman Moulton’s staff was something I’ll never forget.”
Whether you’re a seasoned professional or new to the field, the 2025 NCRA Leadership & Legislative Boot Camp promises to be an enriching experience that could redefine your role in shaping the future of court reporting and captioning.
