NCRA wants to know how you plan to celebrate 2025 Court Reporting & Captioning Week coming up Feb. 1-8. Everyone who celebrates is encouraged to share their plans, pictures, stories, and more about how they will recognize the vital roles and services live stenographic court reporters and captioners provide by sending them to pr@ncra.org or posting them on social media using #CRCW2025.
The theme for the 13th Court Reporting & Captioning Week, The Real AI: Accuracy & Integrity, is intended to serve as a strong reminder to those involved in the profession and to shine a light for others on the reasons why stenographic court reporting and captioning are and always will remain the gold standard when capturing the spoken word and converting it to text. The theme will be carried throughout the year in all of NCRA’s campaigns.
Members of NCRA’s Membership, Marketing, and Outreach Committee (MMO) have already gotten a jump on pushing this message out by creating a series of short videos members and others can use highlighting such attributes as the ability to have empathy, read emotions, and understand the meaning of inflections in some speech – traits no machine or artificial intelligence mode could ever replace. The videos are available for download on the 2025 Court Reporting & Captioning Week resource page.
To celebrate the week-long event, the MMO Committee will also be hosting its second Motivation Monday Zoom event on Feb. 3 at 8.p.m. Eastern. More than a half-dozen panelists will share with attendees what motivates them to succeed in the stenographic world when it comes to sitting for certifications, job experiences, mindsets, insights, and more. There will also be an opportunity for participants to share and ask questions.
NCRA’s Student/Teacher Committee is also planning to host a Zoom meeting that will focus on successful tips and tricks when it comes to practicing. Register now for Mastering Your Practice Plan, presented by Katie DeLong, Amy Galkin, and Alex M. Lederer, RPR, on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. Eastern.
To kick off this year’s theme, NCRA issued a press release highlighting some of the Association’s 2024 efforts to inform the public about the impact of using Artificial Intelligence in the courtroom. Those efforts have included press releases showcasing what to know before integrating AI into capturing the record, information about what specific states are doing to raise awareness of the issue, and more.
For more information on how NCRA can assist you in digesting the latest information regarding AI in the record-making process, you can also contact NCRAGR@ncra.org.
Finally, as in previous years, any state association that submits an official proclamation from their state government or lawmakers recognizing the week will be entered into a drawing to win a free 2025 NCRA Conference & Expo registration. Proclamations should be submitted to pr@ncra.org. The winner will be announced in the Feb. 12 issue of the JCR Weekly.
