NCRA A to Z asynchronous program now on demand!

Imagine you could be exposed to the exciting career of court reporting through a basic introduction of letters and numbers, at your own pace and on your own schedule. That is what the NCRA A to Z® Intro to Steno Machine Shorthand asynchronous program does for participants. Of the 622 completion certificates earned through the NCRA headquarters in 2024, 351 were awarded through our asynchronous program. In an effort to meet participant needs for more rapid registration and to improve the overall user experience, we have an exciting new change for the asynchronous program for 2025.

Beginning this year we will now offer the online asynchronous program on demand. For participants, this means that as soon as they secure a machine they can complete registration and begin the program. Our goal is to meet the needs of those who hear about the career and want to start immediately.

As a note, we will continue our other offering, Online with Live Zoom, three times a year (winter, spring, fall). This offering has specific registration periods and start dates and requires participants to follow an established pace, including weekly attendance on a Zoom webinar (or viewing the recording after the event). We are grateful for the volunteers who donate their time to make both options possible. By providing participants with these choices, NCRA aims to ensure that prospective students are exposed to steno in a way that works best for their unique lifestyle needs and individual learning style.

To register for either program, participants must first secure a machine (physical machine, iPad app, or plug-in hobbyist keyboard) and email proof (receipt or photo) to atozprog@ncra.org. From there a link to register in the Learning Center is provided. For comprehensive details about the process, refer to Steps 1-3 on the web page.

For questions regarding the program, please email Lisa Dennison, NCRA A to Z Program Coordinator at atozprog@ncra.org.
