This year the NCRA Technology Committee is sponsoring several sessions at the 2025 NCRA Conference & Expo this July 24-26 at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis in Minneapolis, Minn., and they are all designed with NCRA members in mind. From how to keep yourself safe from cybercriminals to ways you can put AI to work for you, they’ve got you covered. Here’s a sneak preview.
Why you should choose to attend Tech sessions
“Tech sessions are my favorite sessions at Conference,” says Suzanne Trimble, RPR, CRR, chair of the NCRA Technology Committee. “There are so many ways to use technology to make our lives easier, and I want to use every tool at my disposal to work more efficiently. Tech sessions are a great way to stay abreast of the wonderful ways technology can enrich our personal and professional lives.
“Conference is a great way to earn CEUs, connect with colleagues from all over the U.S. and abroad, connect with court reporting students, and stay abreast of the court reporting, captioning, and CLVS world,” she adds. “It’s consistently a great learning experience, and I always have a fabulous time.”
The conversations, the tips and tricks, the discussions about how court reporting tech are evolving, that’s where real learning happens. If you’re not adapting, you’re falling behind, and getting facetime with top industry professionals is the best way to stay ahead of the curve.
Hector Cordova, CLVS
“Tech sessions aren’t just theoretical — they’re packed with practical, real-world takeaways that directly impact how you work,” says Hector Cordova, CLVS. “I might be on the CLVS Council, but at my core, I’m a tech guy. Whether it’s video, trial presentation, remote setups, or workflow automation, technology is what makes my job (and yours) run more smoothly. That’s why I think tech sessions are the best sessions — period.”
Let’s get specific
Working with Merilee Johnson, RDR, CRR, CRC, and Cordova, Trimble will be presenting a new Kahoots game. Trimble says: “This is the third year we are doing this very fun, interactive, competitive session. It is an awesome way to test your knowledge, learn tech bits and bytes, and maybe even win a prize.”
“I’m also really excited to be co-hosting “In Kahoots 3.0” this year! The previous In Kahoots sessions have gotten fantastic feedback at past Conference, but I’ve never been able to join because I was presenting for CLVS. This year, the third time’s the charm! I’m finally jumping in to help make this fun, interactive session another success,” says Cordova.

Cordova is also scheduled to present “Fortify Your Internet” with Sarah Kleinschmidt, CLVS. Of that session, he says they will be diving into how best to fortify your home internet, an important topic if you are working remotely. “If you want to make your home internet one of the most solid, reliable setups in the industry, this session will give you the exact roadmap to do it,” he says.
Tamara Chapman, RPR, CRR, will also be presenting this year; this time, her session, titled “AI and Court Reporters: Surprising Use Cases from Dictionary Prep to Production,” offers tips on how to make AI work for you. Chapman says: “In my session, you’ll see how to create exhibit descriptions, check quotes, fix misspelled names, and put together appearance pages, all in just minutes.”
Final thoughts
“I love attending Conference & Expo every year because, let’s be honest — our industry can be isolating,” says Cordova. “Court reporters, videographers, and scopists all work independently. You might see attorneys and clients, but you rarely get to spend time with your peers.
“Conferences are one of the only times we can all hit pause, step away from our day-to-day grind, and actually connect with each other. The biggest gathering of industry professionals happens here, and something magical happens when you get so many experienced people in one place.
“And of course, the sessions themselves are packed with value,” he concludes. “Even if you just take away one major insight or workflow change, it can have a massive impact on your work. This year’s lineup is full of must-see sessions, and I can’t wait to see what everyone takes away from them.”
