A Dec. 8 article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette explains that the recent financial pressures have created changes in the ways some firms charge clients. Replacing the billable hour are flat fees, capped fees, blended fees, and other alternative arrangements for billing for legal services. According to the article, a study by ALM Legal Intelligence found that 92 percent of law firms and 88 percent of corporate law departments say alternative fee arrangements are here to stay.
