Many state associations took advantage of the 2021 Court Reporting & Captioning Week to send a message about the important and vital role human court reporters and captioners play in providing the most accurate mode of capturing the spoken word and turning it into text. NCRA provided members and state associations with access to a number of press release templates for use to reach out to both print and broadcast media outlets. In addition, NCRA’s Communications Team and members of the staff of NCRA President Christine Phipps, RPR, reached out to state and local bar associations sharing information about the week and encouraging them to share with their members via their publications and social media outlets.

The February/March issue of the ABA Journal includes letters to the editor submitted by NCRA President Christine Phipps, RPR, and Christopher Day, RPR, an official court reporter from Staten Island, N.Y., noting why using a human court reporter versus any artificial intelligence system is vital to not only ensuring an accurate record is made, but also ensuring participants in any legal proceeding have access to that accurate record.

NCRA member Tracy Boulais, RMR, CRR, an official court reporter from Colorado Springs, Colo., was quoted in an article posted Feb. 11 by the Colorado Springs Gazette about the benefits of a career in court reporting.
Texas Court Reporters Association celebrates Court Reporting & Captioning Week
The Texas Court Reporters Association issued a press release on Feb. 8 announcing that the organization is joining the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) in celebrating Court Reporting & Captioning Week Feb. 6–13, 2021.
Celebrating Official Court Reporter and Court Specialist Week
The Effingham Daily News posted an article on Feb. 3 announcing that Fifth Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Thomas M. O’Shaughnessy of Danville, Ill., announced that the week of Feb. 6-13 has been designated as Official Court Reporter and Court Specialist Week for 2021, and said “official court reporters and court specialists require exemplary English skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to focus for hours on end.”
Veritext to participate in 2021 National Court Reporting & Captioning Week
In a press release issued Feb. 3, Veritext Legal Solutions based in Livingston, N.J., announced that the firm would be hosting several activities to mark 2021 Court Reporting & Captioning Week, including a raffle and scholarship opportunities.
