With the September 30 cycle end date for earning Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) coming up soon, NCRA’s Professional Development team would like to encourage all NCRA members to review their current transcripts to be sure they are not missing any credits.
For those who earned CEUs by attending the 2021 NCRA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nev., in person or via livestream, your transcript has now been updated. We are also processing third-party vendor attendance rosters within two weeks of receipt.
Once you’ve checked your transcript, if you still need CEUs, be sure to visit NCRA’s Learning Center for the latest in webinar sessions now available for purchase. The checklist below should help you make sure your path to professional development is right on target.
Think back over the past three years.
- Check your transcript. Is anything missing?
- Have you taken any courses that might be worthy of CEUs? You might be eligible for CEUs if you have taken a course in any of these areas:
- Language skills, literature, and linguistics
- The reporting profession, the law, and the courts
- Medicine and medical terminology
- Court reporting software and technology
- Legal and business technology
- Legal videography
- Trial presentation
- Business administration
- Safety and emergency preparedness
- Educational or historical tours
- Have you given your services to help those in the profession? You might be eligible for Professional Development Credits (PDCs) if you have given of your time by:
- Participating in any pro bono reporting or captioning services
- Participating in a formal mentoring program such as NCRA’s Virtual Mentor program
- Serving on an NCRA, NCRF, or affiliate state board or committee
- Promoting the court reporting profession in presentations
CEUs vs. PDCs
CEUs are awarded for class time. These may be taken online, in webinar or e-seminar format, or as in-person classes. There will usually be a lecture component for a CEU-worthy program. The individual submitting the course for credit must be the student/participant. All other activities for which we grant units would be awarded PDCs.
PDCs may not be applied toward reinstatement of continuing education requirements. For examples, please visit our continuing education program rules.
