If you have recently visited the NCRA website, you may have noticed some changes, including a new “stick figure” button in the bottom left corner of the website. Clicking on the button allows you to customize the NCRA website for greater access, such as seizure-safe, vision-impaired, or ADHD settings. This update to the website makes it easier to view for both members and people interested in learning more about NCRA and the professions of court reporting, captioning, and legal videography.
“We are pleased to take this step to make sure that our website is accessible to anyone who wants to learn more about NCRA,” said NCRA Executive Director Dave Wenhold, CAE, PLC.
“The profession by its nature means that court reporting and captioning tend to fly under the radar, so taking this step makes sense to make sure all people in the general public know about these careers and that our members can get access to all of the information we make available on the website,” Wenhold added. “The NCRA Board and staff feel that accessibility is key to education about the organization, and those resources range from materials on mental health to the resources for promoting the careers in our field to the many materials created by the NCRA STRONG Committee. The Board and staff not only talk the talk on accessibility, but we walk the walk, and that is a good thing for everyone.”
The NCRA website has been upgraded to include a new interface which enhances the user experience for persons with certain disabilities by adjusting the design to their specific needs. In addition to screen reader optimization for vision impairment and keyboard navigation for motor impairment, the website allows users to make custom adjustments to font, color, content highlighting, animations, audio, and more. Our goal is to support as many browsers and assistive technologies as possible so that our website visitors can have the best user experience possible. We support all major systems, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera, and Microsoft Edge, JAWS, and NVDA (screen readers), both for Windows and for MAC users. We are continually upgrading options and features on our website as new technological advancements become available, and there may still be pages of sections of our website that are not yet fully accessible.
