The budget passed by Kansas lawmakers may not fully fund the courts, say state officials. According to an April 14 article in the Topeka Capital-Journal, a special commission appointed by Kansas Chief Justice Lawton Nuss suggested that the court may need to “close as many as 10 days in the next fiscal year.” The budget passed by lawmakers only offers $2 million of the $8.25 million the court system says it needs to fully support its functions.
