President Jason T. Meadors, FAPR, RPR, CRR, CRC, tackled a variety of issues facing the court reporting profession at Saturday’s Town Hall, where the leadership and members of NCRA met virtually to join in the discussion.
One of the most pressing issues was the unfolding situation in Indiana and mobilizing NCRA members to voice their opposition. “A baffling and backwards new rule has been proposed in Indiana to eliminate stenography from the courtroom,” stated President Meadors, who continues to urge members to “find out what you can do.”
NCRA Executive Director Dave Wenhold, CAE, PLC, and Government Relations Director Jocelynn A. Moore, Esq., were also in attendance and delivered brief remarks.
Lisa Dennison, the NCRA A to Z® Program Coordinator and staff liaison to the NCRA A to Z Committee, which acts as a primary resource to implement the program, delivered an update on how recruiting the next generation of participants has become a top priority. “We had a great year in 2022 and have exciting plans for 2023,” said Dennison. “We hope to double the number of NCRA A to Z program offerings and are exploring creative ways to expand the reach of NCRA A to Z!”
When it comes to the plethora of issues facing the court reporting and captioning field, President Meadors expressed his confidence in veterans, professionals, and newcomers, saying: “There has never been a time so challenging and rewarding in our profession.”
When asked about his next Town Hall event, Meadors stated that these events have quickly become “an unexpected highlight” of his term. “The value of connecting and interacting with the membership nationwide is incalculable and hugely enjoyable,” he said.
