Sophia Critelli (l) and Krista Bishop both recorded remarks thanking NCRF.
One consistent goal for National Court Reporter Foundation leaders is to motivate and nurture court reporter students.
Just as the NCRF Trustees and Angel Gatherers Committee members are passionate about their careers, they know that students must keep their passion to learn alive. The Foundation cares about giving back, giving a hand up, and ensuring student and member success.
“These NCRF Student Intern Scholarships seek to reward passionate students so that they can advance in their writing skills journeys,” said Doug Friend, FAPR, RDR, CRR (Ret.), NCRF Chair. “This year NCRF Trustees voted to double most grants and scholarships. This NCRF student intern scholarship award will be $2,000 per winner, and we hope it will help awardees with their training expenses.”
Grateful to NCRF for this scholarship, Sophia Critelli, a student at Des Moines Area Community College, said, “I am honored to be able to thank you for this incredible award. It means more to me than you can even begin to know. My internship experience in Polk County, Iowa, was packed with educational moments, good tips, and real-life scenarios.
“I saw firsthand accounts of the unique relationships between court reporters and judges and the speed I hope to achieve soon. Participating in this internship made me more excited and able to envision myself in the courtroom. I believe an internship will help steno students become more comfortable in their skills and future workplace,” she added.
“I wanted to tell you a little about the person you’re giving such a generous award to. My name is Sophia, but I go by Fia to my friends and family. I am 22 and in the Des Moines Area Community College Court Reporting Program. I love to read, journal, and go on walks. I plan on putting this money towards tuition (hopefully, I am in my last semester), Realtime Coach subscriptions, and the RPR and CSR certification for my state. I am currently in the final speed class of my program. I am so grateful for all your generosity, and it feels good to have others behind me and cheering me on. Thank you so much!”
Honored and touched to be an NCRF scholarship recipient, Krista Bishop, a student at Cuyahoga Community College, said, “I want to thank the National Court Reporters Foundation for selecting me as a recipient of their NCRF Student Intern Scholarship. I am so incredibly grateful to receive this very generous award. I was so excited when I heard that I had won. Hearing that the award was doubled was such a huge surprise to me as well. I was completely shocked.
“I genuinely cannot thank everyone at the NCRF enough. Receiving this scholarship means so much to me. NCRF is a wonderful organization and I love what they are doing for the court reporting community. I am so honored to be recognized by such a great foundation. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for this amazing award,” she added.
