2024 CASE and NCRF A to Z Scholarship winners announced

NCRA’s Council on Approved Student Education (CASE) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 CASE Student Scholarships. CASE offers five scholarships each year. The top prize of $1,500 is the Sue Shelton White Scholarship, named in honor of Sue Shelton White. Four additional scholarships are available in the amounts of $1,000, $750, $500, and $250. To be eligible to apply, students must currently be attending an NCRA-approved court reporting program, have an exemplary academic record, and have passed one Skills Test writing 160 wpm or higher at the time of submission. In addition, applicants must submit an essay on a topic chosen by CASE.

This year’s essay topic was: How do you view artificial intelligence (AI) impacting the stenographic reporting profession? 

The recipient of the 2024 Sue Shelton White Scholarship is Tabea Adam from St. Paul, Alberta, Canada, a student at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

NCRF A to Z Scholarships

The National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF) also recently announced the 2024 winners of the NCRF A to Z® Scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to students who have completed an NCRA A to Z Intro to Steno Machine Shorthand program and are enrolled in a court reporting program. Qualified applicants also must have passed a Skills Test writing between 60 and 160 wpm among other eligibility requirements.

The NCRF A to Z Scholarship program was expanded in 2022 from 10 scholarships at $500 each to 15 scholarships at $750 each. The increased number of awards was the result of a unanimous decision by the NCRF Board of Trustees and a generous increase in donations. The 2024 recipients of $750 each are:

  • Ginette Bindam from Bayonne, N.J., a student at Alfred State College 
  • Nathan Borgen from Surprise, Ariz., a student at Macomb Community College
  • Caitlin Pon from Flushing, N.Y., a student at Plaza College              
  • Gloria Fanciang from San Gabriel, Calif., a student at Downey Adult School 
  • Joseph Fuoco from Monroe Township, N.J., a student at Plaza College  
  • Mikayla Martin from Long Beach, N.Y., a student at Plaza College           
  • Tram Nguyen from Van Alystyne, Texas, a student at Allison Hall Reporting Education          
  • Brittany Pearson from Abilene, Texas, a student at Oklahoma State University              
  • Morgan Penney from Citrus Heights, Calif., a student at Alfred State College
  • Lydia Rivera from Greenwood, Ind., a student at College of Court Reporting              
  • Zander Stolfi from The Colony, Texas, a student at CareerLuv
  • Shelby Sweeney from Port Neches, Texas, a student at Lamar State College Orange
  • Stacey Tran from Los Angeles, Calif., a student at South Coast College
