NCRA’s 2015 National Court Reporting & Captioning Week, celebrated Feb. 15-22, generated media interest in a number of outlets across the nation, further helping to increase the public’s awareness about the vital role the profession plays in courtrooms, classrooms, and other areas, as well as the flexibility, benefits, and job opportunities it offers.
Among the many notable stories generated in the media during the week included a piece posted by PennLive.com on Feb. 15 featuring NCRA Vice President Nativa Wood, RDR, CMRS, a retired official court reporter from Harrisburg, Pa. In the piece, Wood discusses her career as a court reporter as well as the future of the profession.
National Court Reporting & Captioning Week and NCRA’s Take Note campaign were featured in a segment aired on Feb. 17 by WAVY TV in Portsmouth, Va. The story includes interviews with NCRA members Lois Boyle, RMR, Carol Naughton, RPR, and Tony Spratley.
Thousands of posts and tweets were also shared by NCRA, state court reporting associations, individual court reporters and captioners, and court reporting programs that took to their social media outlets to help showcase the profession. On Feb. 18, U.S. Rep. Ron Kind recognized National Court Reporting & Captioning Week on his Facebook page and noted that he is excited that the Wisconsin Court Reporters Association has partnered with the Library of Congress to record the oral histories of American war veterans as part of the Veterans History Project.
