The New Markets Task Force is seeking graduate or undergraduate college students interested in conducting market research related to new opportunities available in nontraditional areas for court reporters, CART captioners, and legal videographers.
The research will be presented in thesis-form, and will identify potential industries that need instant access to content and/or content management, said Lisa DiMonte, RMR, CMRS, chair of the New Markets Task Force.
“The Task Force would be very interested in the son or daughter of a NCRA member at the college or post-college level who might be majoring in business, marketing, or even economics. The members feel that reaching out to the court reporting community for potential candidates could help us identify students who already have a solid understanding of the profession, as well as the support of parents working in the field already,” DiMonte explained.
Members of the New Markets Task Force compiled the following list of questions the research and thesis should address:
- What industries would have a need for this type of instant content? Examples may include financial, educational, political, or entertainment groups; public radio and television; sports; hard-of-hearing organizations; marketing focus groups; war rooms, association meetings; personal or professional memoirs; marketing or training videos; and/or adding text to videos (live and in post-production) so that they are searchable.
- How do court reporters find potential new markets?
- What tools would court reporters employ to find potential new markets?
- What research material already exists and how do court reporters locate relevant material?
- How do court reporters, through the National Court Reporters Association (more than 100 years old), use the assets of the organization to aid its members in learning how to find potential new markets and track the results?
- How and where do court reporters apply their skills in non-legal markets?
- What tools and/or resources will court reporters and court reporting agencies need to market themselves to these new markets and implement the services to the new end user?
