The 2015 NCRA Convention & Expo kicks off in the Big Apple on July 28 and will offer attendees five days of top-notch educational sessions, specialized workshops, valuable networking opportunities, and the chance to celebrate the court reporting and captioning profession and its many heroes.
This year’s premier session will feature a panel of seasoned professionals from all backgrounds who will share their stories, including what impact court reporting and captioning have had on their lives. The panel, which will be led by Dom Tursi, an official court reporter and director of The Gallery of Shorthand in Islip, N.Y., promises to motivate convention attendees as they begin their journey through the 2015 Convention & Expo.
As always, concurrent tracks on the schedule will offer sessions that explore the latest trends and issues happening in the worlds of realtime, judicial, business, and vendors. Attendees taking part in the realtime track, for example, will learn about the latest in new and upcoming captioning legislation and regulations, ethics, online testing, how to create a successful future, and more.
The power of a positive attitude, mastering your CAT dictionary, how to handle demanding attorneys, and advocating for the value of an official court reporter in the courtroom are just some of the topics the judicial track is scheduled to address. Firm owners and freelancers will have the opportunity to learn more about going paperless, dressing for success, best practices of remote reporting, and making the most out of PDF transcripts and exhibits when they attend the business track.
While the Expo floor is always a highlight for convention attendees, many of vendors will also offer sessions rich in information, tips, and tactics. Among those include Realtime Coach, which will host a session about skill building and social networking, StreamText.Net, which will provide attendees with an inside look at how to deliver realtime with the company’s software, and Magnum Steno, which will showcase how RHPEs can make better reporters. Other vendors scheduled to present during the vendor track include Stenograph, The Varrallo Group, EduCaption and Dictionary Jumpstart, and Stenovations, Inc. The business track also includes a session that will explore the benefits that participation in Intersteno offers to Americans.
Other Convention & Expo highlights include the annual realtime and speed contests, the president’s party, the student seminar program featuring a meet and greet with NCRA Board of Directors members, and the NCRF Angels and NCRA Awards luncheons.
