Adam Finkel, NCRA’s Director of Government Relations, represented the Association on a panel that addressed issues related to the current quality of television captions during the Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Biennial Conference held Aug. 19-22.
The panel, “Current Progress for TV Captioning Quality,” was one of several that addressed the conference’s theme of TDI and ADA: Leveraging 25 Years of Achieving Access. Joining Finkel on the panel were representatives from the University of Colorado’s Technology and Policy Law Clinic, the National Association of Broadcasters, the Federal Communications Commission, the captioning company VITAC Inc., the Hearing Loss Association of America, and the National Association of the Deaf.
According to Finkel, the discussion covered a variety of topics including new best practices related to captioning quality, how each group is working to address the issues directly related to their constituents, and how each of the organizations represented have been working to promote and implement new initiatives to ensure quality.
“The workshop hosted by TDI provided a healthy venue for like-minded groups to connect and collaborate on reaching their common goals,” said Adam Finkel, NCRA Director of Government Relations. “It is these types of engaging interactions that very often are the source of solid solutions to issues. NCRA was extremely appreciative of the opportunity to participate.”
